Please don't travel in Pacific Spirit Park alone

Woman found slain in UBC-area park identified

CBC News has confirmed that a woman found slain in a park near the University of British Columbia on Friday was Wendy Ladner-Beaudry, co-chairwoman of the BC Games Society and mother of two girls.

When I was in grad school, one of my acquaintances from UBC was ambushed and killed in this park, while cycling on his own, by a deranged individual. I'm sorry to read that this has happened again.

The park is not safe. Folks can jump out at you from in-hiding...and there are so many places to hide.

Everyone, be safe.

Yeah, I used to love walking or cycling through the Endowment Lands (I prefer that name for them) but the stories I heard about people getting hurt kind of ruined it for me. I feel safe enough walking around the rest of Vancouver, but you're too secluded in the park to be entirely safe.

I'm sorry about your friend.
